dbt catalog viewer

The dbt catalog viewer in dbt-Workbench brings dbt metadata search, dbt test health, and dbt freshness visibility into one place. Use it to validate coverage, explore column statistics, and enrich metadata directly in the UI.

Catalog capabilities​

  • Metadata search across models, sources, exposures, macros, tests, tags, and columns.
  • Test health indicators in validation reports and entity pages.
  • Freshness tracking with max loaded timestamps, thresholds, and status.
  • Validation reports for missing docs, owners, tags, failing tests, and stale sources.
  • Column statistics from catalog.json with profiling insights.

Editing controls​

To allow metadata edits, set ALLOW_METADATA_EDITS=true. The UI then enables:

  • Updating owners, tags, and descriptions.
  • Editing column-level metadata.
  • Persisting enriched metadata for catalog re-use.
